Spiritual Direction

What is Spiritual Direction and how can it deepen your faith?

Spiritual Direction is the practice of meeting with a trained guide, to help walk alongside you in your relationship with God. A Spiritual Director helps you notice and respond to God’s presence in your everyday life. .

Spiritual Direction is not counseling, life-coaching or mentoring. It is a unique experience. It is an ongoing conversation between two people—a director and a directee—centered entirely on the directee’s relationship with the divine.

Anyone who desires to grow in their faith can benefit from a spiritual director. As active listeners to your story, they can help you recognize the movements of the Holy Spirit in your life. This can be especially helpful during times of doubt, spiritual dryness, or deep growth.

Spiritual Directors are trusted companions along your faith journey. If you’re longing for a closer, more intentional walk with God, spiritual direction may be a meaningful next step.

Marie Griffith

Hello, I’m Marie. I’m a spiritual director, writer, teacher, and chaplain. Several years ago, I went through a season of untangling my faith from man-made traditions and came to know Jesus in a new way. As I continue to learn, I guide others in their spiritual formation, help them know themselves and God better, and journey with them through the stages of faith. I do this through spiritual direction, writing curriculum, teaching, mentoring, and collaborating with others who do similar work.

I earned an MA in Christian Spiritual Formation and Leadership from Friends University and completed my spiritual direction training with Sustainable Faith in 2025.
